New Teacher Tips

Objective

New teachers will collaborate to create a wiki that will pass on tips and information about their first year at Francis Tuttle to the next group ofnew teachers.

Activity

During new teacher orientation class, teachers will divide into groupsof 4 and choose a topic to write about on the FT New Teacher wiki. Topics can be anything that has been covered in our classes or something that you feel would be beneficial to a new teacher. Topic suggestions:

• What you need to know to start the school year
• Progress based grading
• Developing Gold Seal lessons
• Francis Tuttle Culture
• Blackboard
• Who to ask for help
• ITS issues
• Getting what I need for my classroom
• Program overviews

Learning Knowledge and Skills

Teachers will learn to create a wiki page and will be writing,collaborating, and sharing with their colleagues in the process of learning a new skill that can be used in their classroom as well.

Instructions

1. Sign up for an account at www.wikispaces.com.
2. Set up your account and then add “ftnewteacher” to your wiki list.
3. Create a new page by clicking on the “New Page” button at the top.
4. Name your page according to the topic your group chose.
5. Each member of the group will contribute to the content of the page.
6. Use the tutorials on this site to help you add content, images, and video to your page.
7. The end result will be a complete wiki created to help future teachers at Francis Tuttle.
